We headed to Paris to put the new Lundi 27 through its paces, riding the Chain, Belt and Launch Edition across the city to see how this new generation stacks up.
There are worse places to test a new city bike than Paris.
Over the past decade, the French capital has undergone one of the most significant cycling transformations of any major European city. Cycle lanes now cut across the city, car space has been reduced and getting around on two wheels has become a normal part of everyday Parisian life.
So, when Moustache invited us over to ride the new Moustache Lundi 27, it felt like the right place to see what had changed.
Ben spent the day riding across Paris with Moustache, covering around 60km in 35-degree heat, from early-morning cobbles and quieter back streets to the city's increasingly busy cycle network. Along the way, he sat down with the team behind the bike for a closer look at the new Bosch system and why Moustache has made one of the biggest changes to the Lundi since it was launched.
Meet the new Moustache Lundi 27
The silhouette is familiar.
The distinctive Moustache handlebars remain, as does the low step-through frame and upright riding position that have always made the Lundi such an easy bike to get on with.
Underneath, however, quite a lot has changed.
At the centre of the new bike is the Bosch Hub Line – Bosch's new rear hub motor system and its first serious move into this part of the eBike market.
Moustache has been closely involved in the project, testing the system for around three years before launch. It's a fitting partnership: Moustache has worked with Bosch since its earliest days as an eBike manufacturer, and the Lundi was the first model the French brand ever produced.
For urban riding, the Hub Line makes a lot of sense.
The system uses multiple sensors to understand speed, movement and gradient, with Bosch aiming to deliver the responsive feel associated with a mid-drive motor while retaining the simplicity of a rear hub. In practice, Ben found it particularly effective when pulling away and riding through the constant stop-start of Parisian traffic.
It's also helped Moustache make the Lundi lighter and, importantly, more accessible on price.
Two ways to ride it: Chain or Belt
The new Lundi 27 comes in two main configurations, giving riders a straightforward choice depending on where and how they ride.
Moustache Lundi 27 Chain
The Lundi 27 Chain uses familiar 9-speed gearing, giving you a wider choice of gears for changing terrain and hillier journeys.
For riders who want the flexibility of conventional gears, or regularly tackle steeper routes, this is likely to be the natural choice.
Combined with the new Bosch Hub Line motor, it also represents a new entry point into the Lundi range – bringing Moustache's premium build quality and established urban design to a lower price than previous generations.

Moustache Lundi 27 Belt
The Lundi 27 Belt takes a simpler approach.
It uses a single-speed belt drive, meaning there are no gears to think about and considerably less drivetrain maintenance. Get on, pedal and go.
Ben initially expected the single-speed setup to be limiting, but riding it around Paris – including some of the city's gradients – proved otherwise. The immediate assistance from the Bosch Hub Line works particularly well with the belt setup.
For relatively flat urban riding, commuting and riders who prioritise simplicity, the Belt makes a strong case for itself.

There's also a limited Moustache Lundi 27 Launch Edition, finished in its distinctive Electric Blue colour and equipped with additional features including a 10-speed drivetrain, Bosch ConnectModule and rear rack.

Lighter, simpler and built around city life
The move to Bosch Hub Line has also helped reduce the overall weight of the Lundi.
The motor weighs 2.4kg and is paired with a removable 360Wh Bosch battery weighing 2.1kg. Compared with the previous generation, the lightest new Lundi is around 3.5kg lighter – a meaningful difference when lifting a bike up steps, onto a train or into a flat.
The battery can be removed from the frame and carried using its integrated handle. Moustache says an 80% charge takes around an hour with the supplied 4A charger, with a full charge taking around two hours. There's also compatibility with the Bosch PowerMore 250Wh range extender for riders who want additional capacity for longer journeys.
Practicality hasn't been forgotten either.
There's a 27kg-capacity rear rack, the option to add a front rack, an ABUS frame lock and compatibility with Bosch's SmartphoneGrip. Moustache has also widened its distinctive handlebar slightly and integrated the cables through the front of the bike for a cleaner and better-protected setup.
It remains, fundamentally, a Lundi – just a lighter and simpler one.
An ode to the Lundi
Lots of eBikes come and go. They launch, get updated and eventually begin to look like products of their time.
The Lundi has managed to avoid that.
It was the first eBike Moustache created when the French brand launched in 2011, and more than a decade later its silhouette remains instantly recognisable.
Those handlebars. The low step-through frame. The upright riding position. The slightly eccentric French character of the whole thing.
You know a Lundi when you see one.
Going back through the Fully Charged archives, what's striking is how little the reason for buying one has changed. We once described it as a kind of “modern Pashley”: comfortable, practical and designed around everyday urban life.
Perhaps that's why the Lundi has lasted.
Good design doesn't need to be reinvented every few years. It needs to evolve without losing the things that made it work in the first place.
The new Lundi does exactly that.
