Brompton Goes Electric! The Foldable Brompton Electric Bike

There have been whispers in the air about Brompton going electric for years. They have threatened its release for the last few summers – but, with today’s announcements in the press it seems like finally, the wait for a foldable Brompton electric bike may nearly be over!

With nearly ten years in the making, the decision to partner with Williams F1 Racing four years ago will undoubtedly have led to great things – best of British – and we can’t wait to see the outcome.

What we know about the Brompton Electric Folding Bike so far

According to the Brompton website, the electric Brompton will have an integrated 250W motor nestled in the front hub and the battery on the front frame will be contained in a standalone rucksack that can be easily attached an unattached. This also allows a rider to bring the battery inside without having to bring the whole bike inside. The electric Brompton retains the Brompton’s foldability and at a reported weight of only 13kg and a battery that weights only 2.8kg, it is also exceptionally light for an electric bike. The eBike has a stated range of 25 to 50 miles, however as always we would recommend you take this with a pinch of salt as this will vary dramatically depending on cycling conditions.

The bike is likely to start retailing at £2595 in the UK and be available in both 2 speed and 6 speed formats in black and white.

Brompton’s new electric bike was unveiled at the Brompton World Championships final event in London, Saturday 29 th July, with full-scale manufacturing reportedly starting in the new year. Brompton have confirmed that they are going to use the UK as a test bed to gauge demand before bringing the product to other European countries.

We at Fully Charged will of course be in the queue to stock this iconic brand and look forward to adding it to our extensive range of electric bikes in 2018.
